With the spring coming, a brand new year is also arriving.

At this beautiful moment of farewell to last year and celebrate the coming year,  School/Hospital of Stomatology Lanzhou University (Dental Hospital) is sending its best greetings and heartfelt thanks to all staff working on the front line of medical care, teaching, scientific research and administration of logistics, and to the retired staff who had contributed to the development of the College (Hospital), and to the administrators, alumni, friends from all fields, as well as to the outpatients and their families who have concerned about, paid attention to and supported the reform and development of the College!

The year of 2020 is a glorious year for our emancipation of the mind and innovative reform. Under the guidance of Xi Jinping's thought of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, School/Hospital of Stomatology Lanzhou University (Dental Hospital) has been adhering to the overall leadership of the Party, fully implementing the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress and the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th plenary sessions of the 19th CPC Central Committee, and actively adapting to the new situation of the rapid development of the university. We will seize opportunities, create opportunities, overcome difficulties,and forge ahead, unite as one, and achieve fruitful results. 

Boundless love has been illustrated by our great contribution and great success to the Covid-19. Facing up to the outbreak of the epidemic, we have resolutely been implementing the requirements of the Central Committee, Gansu Province and schools on Covid-19 prevention and control, effectively played the important role as a battle stronghold of the Party organization and our Party members have been acting as pioneers and role models. We have carried out various thematic Party Day activities such as "Waving the Party Flag, building up a red firewall", "Firm faith, bite the bullet, winning the war for the containment of the epidemic”，"Celebrating the Party's birthday, telling the story of the great battle with epidemic, reminding the original mission, and writing a new chapter of Lanzhou University", and so on. We had organized the return to school, the resumption of classes and work, the scientific research, the development of equipment, the medical treatment, under the circumstance of very strict epidemic prevention and controls. Teachers and students, as well as physicians, shoulder by shoulder have successfully completed the task of the containment of epidemic and written a hymn of great boundless love.

Ethics and educating people system has been developed in three areas. The University insists on carrying out ethical and political work throughout the whole process of education and teaching, achieving the goals of "Political education in each subject, special characteristics in each class, and education for all". Furthering the reform and innovation of teaching methods, ‘Periodontology"’and ‘Prosthodontics’ had won the provincial First-class Undergraduate Courses prize for the first time, plus oral virtual simulation experimental education of dentistry was approved as Gansu Province Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Centre, the college has won one 1st prize of university-level teaching achievement award and gained one provincial higher-education teaching result-based nurturing project. Four key projects and five general projects were claimed for teaching research reform, and five teaching teams were set up. One external senior expert, two associate professors, and one Cuiying postdoctoral fellow were hired. One professor and two associate professors got promotion, six teachers are currently working on their doctoral degrees, and a number of teachers went abroad for exchange projects. Initially we have built up a team made of highly qualified staff with balanced age, expertise and professional diversity, which is qualifying the academic teaching and clinical requirements.

Based on the innovation and entrepreneurship projects, and with the "Little Worker Bee" volunteer service and the artistic literacy training programme gearing up for medical students, the student’s skills have been developed entirely. A number of students attended and gave presentations at the top competitions or forums in China; 5 national-level and 30 university-level innovation and entrepreneurship projects were approved. Three teams participated in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions and won the 6th "Internet+" national silver prize. Also, the college won 3 gold medals and 1 bronze medal in the provincial competition, 1 silver medal in the National "Challenge Cup", 1 Special Prize, 1 Second Prize and 1 Third Prize in the 12th "Challenge Cup" Provincial Competition, 1 First Prize and 1 Second Prize in the Career Planning Group of the Gansu University Students' Employment and Entrepreneurship Competition, as well as 1 Second Prize in the fifth National College students Life Science Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition which has broken the historic record. Following a win of one provincial Innovative Education Reforming-research Project, Professor Liu Bin was awarded the provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education teacher.

Interdisciplinary scientific research platforms have been set up. A historical breakthrough has been made which is Gansu Dental Maxillofacial Reconstruction & Biological Intelligence Manufacturing Key Laboratory had been approved. Moreover, Stomatological Research Center had been approved too. A total of 15 scientific research projects have been launched, with an annual scientific research fund of nearly 5 million yuan. More than 30 high-level academic papers have been published. Among them, we have made important scientific progress in 3D printing biomaterials,  material coating implant, graphene chirality, Nano photoluminescence agent, etc., and the important achievements were published in the prestigious journals such as of "science", "Advanced Functional Materials", "Materials & Design" and "ACS Nano", which has enhanced the domestic and international influence of our institute. We have built a cross-collaboration platform for oral cavity, established an industry-university-research cooperation mechanism, and carried out cooperation with enterprises to realize the transformation of industry-university-research achievements.

Prestigious hospital serves the local community. School/Hospital of Stomatology Lanzhou University (Dental Hospital) has been awarded the Gansu Provincial Stomatology Professional Quality Control Center and the third tier of national standardized training base for resident doctors. In the ranking list of Chinese hospitals published by Fudan University in Shanghai, it is the third in the stomatological hospital in the northwest China for four consecutive years. As the leading unit of Gansu Provincial Stomatology specialist Alliance, we have steadily pushed forward the construction of Gansu Provincial Stomatology specialist Medical Association, supported Gansu Medical College and Linxia Vocational and Technical College, and earnestly fulfilled the social responsibilities of public hospitals. Three doctors were awarded the title of "Excellent Physicians of Gansu Province", and the team of prosthodontics was awarded the title of "Outstanding Physician team of Gansu Province". We also undertook the "Western Tour" of Chinese Stomatological Association and the Silk Road Public Lecturing Tour of Dentistry and Endodontics and Prosthodontics, as well as the large-scale conference of standardized training of resident stomatologists and teacher training class (Lanzhou Station), and more than 40 academic exchanges. Throughout the year, oral health education and free clinic activities were carried out for more than 20 times, benefiting more than 100,000 people.

A great cause waits for no one, but belongs to the hardworking!

Nobody and nothing could stop us, even for a day! The bright future of School/Hospital of Stomatology Lanzhou University (Dental Hospital) will be fulfilled by all staff. We will further optimize the talent training system and complete the construction of “Shuangwan” first-class discipline; overcome the shortcoming of the discipline development, and complete the application of second-level doctoral programs and the fifth round of discipline evaluation; deepen the reform of the system, implement classified assessment methods, and try out department team assessment; improve the ability of social service, complete the construction of intelligent hospital, accomplish the construction of branch or sub-center, and prepare the re-evaluation of the 3A Grade stomatology hospital. Let us forge ahead, write a new chapter and achieve great success by hand in hand, and with high momentum, to finally make our dreams come true!
